The latest instalment of the fantasy
epic saw an epic clash between the living and the dead that ended in tragedy
for Daenerys Targaryen.
Jon and his men ventured north of
the Wall in a misguided attempt to capture a wight.
Although they succeeded, they
quickly found themselves surrounded by an army of the undead, but managed to
escape with only two casualties: Thoros of Myr and Viserion, the dragon.
Fans were left with several
questions that seemed like plot holes.
How did it take the White Walkers
the same amount of time to climb a hill as it did a raven to travel to
Dragonston
Game of Thrones season 7: Who is Jon Snow's father? Is Jon a
Targaryen
Why didn’t the Night King and his
henchmen didn’t take out Jon and his party when they had them surrounded?
And where did the White Walkers find
a ready supply of chains to raise a dragon from an ice lake?
A new theory attempts to solve all
three questions by suggesting that the White Walkers are playing a long game.
I was bothered by the timing between
the others attacking and when Gendry sent the raven (a six day journey by
raven) and then I noticed the javelins.
The White Walkers each had one when
they arrived, yet took no motion to kill our heroes, despite their superb
accuracy. Does White
Walkers have certain magical powers, similar to those of the Three-Eyed Raven.
Which allows them to sense that they
were in the presence of two men resurrected by the Lord of Light, who would be
saved by dragons.
The White Walkers trapped Jon and
his men on the centre of the lake so that they could capture one of Daenerys’
dragons. Otherwise building chains ahead of
time, or finding them, seems too fortuitous.
The White Walkers were created by the
Children of the Forest, and have the powers to freeze anything they
touch, extinguish flames and reanimate the dead.
Could they also have the gift of
foresight?
